Governance incompetence–a national security challenge

GNReport

Balochistan's meagre resources are under spent.

Local media reports suggest that the Balochistan government has lapsed Rs 40 billion, returning to the federal government. The Balochistan government spokesman Liaquat Shahwani says that we have saved Rs 40 billion from development schemes and returned it to the federation.

The question arises as to whether the government is responsible for Gwadar, Jivani and Klach where Residents are on the street for basic amenities like water, protesting daily by blocking roads. Gawadar holds Pakistan's economic future and so far has a severe water shortages. No development can be imagined without provision of basic variables like law and order and water.

There is not a single black top road in the entire rural areas of Balochistan. The conditions of roads worse as they are not carpeted.

The power and water crisis continues throughout the province. The power shortage is a recurring phenomenon and its just part of life that people have learnt to live with this unfortunate situation.

Unemployment is on the rise. One main reason is the fear of NAB and other authorities that bureaucracy does not want to spend. But whatever the reason Balochistan is suffering from a governance crsis and with the current poverty levels, the underspent meager resources is an indictment against the government for its incompetence.

The Government representative spins this incompetence in many ways but the people of Balochistan simply do not believe that they are treated fairly.

In the new scheme of things i.e. threat perception paradigm, incompetence has been elevated to the levels of to national security crisis. No national power of a country can be built on weak decisions and their poor executions by a government which includes budgetary commitments.

The current PTI government and its coalition partners in Balochistan are accused of capability issues morphing into monumental governance challenges not only in Balochistan but also in Punjab.

The impression in public needs to be reversed as it is in their interests. After all, spinning and social media campaigns can not be equivalent to efficient governance. Balochistan can least afford such a style of statecraft.
